AOL Users Viewing Web Images
In order to increase speed when AOL users are viewing pages with graphics AOL sends the image through a compression manager program. This can reduce the quality of images viewed in this site, and on the Internet in general. This occurs when using AOL's default browser, but can be changed by the individual AOL user if they turn compression off. A better solution often is just to use a non-AOL browser such as Microsoft's Internet Explorer or Netscape's Navigator.

To read AOL's explanation of image compression read AOL's Graphics Compression Info in their Webmaster section.
